Call Rick Cautela (614-374-9350) at Alrosa Villa and let him know that you find it unacceptable that they are one of the few venues in this country that are willing to give an audience to Banton's message of homophobia, violence and murder. Also, invite your friends to the facebook group. The more people that are aware of this and take action, the more likely it is we'll get Buju Banton out of our state.

STONEWALL COLUMBUS CALLS FOR CANCELLATION OF RESCHEDULED BUJU BANTON CONCERT
SWC
http://www.outincleveland.com/home/news.asp?articleid=33627
Stonewall Columbus is calling for the immediate cancellation of the concert by reggae singer Buju Banton who is currently scheduled to perform at The Alrosa Villa on October 2, 2009. Banton is infamous for a career spanning twenty years in which his lyrics call for deadly violence against gay men. His performances have sparked protests in cities across America, resulting in several cancelled performances on his US 2009 tour including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Dallas and Houston.
Through his music, Banton promotes a culture of violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, singing in his most notorious song , Boom, Bye Bye that "when Buju Banton come, faggots get up and run." Other lyrics included "they have to die" and that he will "shoot 'em in the head" or "burn 'em up bad."
In his home country of Jamaica, Banton and his fellow performers of "murder music," have helped to create and sustain a culture in which violence against LGBT people is not only tolerated, it is even celebrated. Banton has not renounced his homophobic lyrics, or his explicit calls to violence against people in the GLBTQI community. He has performed these songs in various recent concerts and been quoted as saying proudly "There is no end to the war between me and the faggots."
Columbus has the largest number of LGBT people per capita in the nation. Producing a show that spews this much hatred is a direct slap in the face to the tens of thousands of LGBT people who live, work and raise families in our diverse twenty-first century city. Stonewall Columbus urges supporters to take swift action to stop the preaching of hate against the LGBT community and asks that all fair-minded people stand with the LGBT community in calling for the cancellation of this performance on October 2.

The Lifestyle Communities Pavilion in Columbus, OH has canceled the Oct. 3 show featuring reggae singer
Buju Banton after several LGBT rights groups, including Equality Ohio and Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio began an e-mail and Facebook campaign urging people to voice their disapproval.
Messages from Equality Ohio and the Stonewall Democrats of Central Ohio were re-posted on Facebook, denouncing the reggae musician as homophobic for song lyrics that call for the murder of gays.
The Jamaican reggae singer’s music has in the past been blamed for inciting violence against LGBT’s and his 1992 song Boom Bye Bye called for shooting gays with Uzis and burning their skin with acid “like an old tire wheel.”
In June 2004, Banton and a gang of men broke into a house of near Banton’s Kingston recording studio and viciously beat six men he claimed were gay. After complaints from international human-rights groups, Banton was finally charged, but a Jamaican judge eventually dismissed the case for lack of evidence.
Amy Cooper, The Marketing Director at PromoWest Promotions acknowledged yesterday that the show had been canceled but declined to elaborate, saying only that PromoWest did not directly schedule the Banton concert, but only rented the venue to an outside agency that handles the show booking.
PromoWest Productions currently owns and operates four of Columbus’ most popular live music and entertainment venues: THE LC – Lifestyle Communities Pavilion, Newport Music Hall, The Basement and the A&R Music Bar. Cooper also would not provide contact information for the outside booking agent or Banton’s managers. Last month concert promoters Live Nation and AEG canceled shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas and Houston.

Buju Banton's song Boom Bye Bye speaks of shooting and burning gays.
The Lifestyle Communities Pavilion has canceled anOct. 3 show featuring reggae singer Buju Banton after protests by advocates for Columbus' gay community.
Taking issue with some content in the singer's music, several groups -- including Equality Ohio and Stonewall Democrats of Ohio -- circulated an e-mail yesterday urging people to voice their disapproval and shut down the show.
"The targeted audience for his message and the proximity to the OSU campus neighborhood creates a tangible threat to the safety and well-being … particularly of the gay and lesbian community in Victorian Village," the message said.
The direct phone number and e-mail address for the venue's marketing director, Amy Cooper, were included in the note and posted on Columbusunderground.com, an online news site and message board.
At the center of the controversy: Banton's 1988 song Boom Bye Bye, whose lyrics speak to shooting and burning gays. Banton and others were charged in 2004 for breaking into a home in Kingston, Jamaica, and attacking its gay residents. Two years later, a judge dismissed the case, citing a lack of evidence.
Cooper -- whose PromoWest Productions employer books shows at A&R Music Bar, the Basement, Lifestyle Communities Pavilion and the Newport Music Hall -- acknowledged yesterday that the show had been canceled but declined to elaborate.
PromoWest did not directly schedule the Banton concert, she said, but only rented the venue to an outside agency that handles the show booking, lighting, production and other aspects (except security).
Cooper would not provide contact information for the outside booking agent or Banton's managers.
Yesterday's development follows the cancellation in late August of seven Banton shows by promoters AEG Live/Goldenvoice and Live Nation. The concerts were scrapped in the wake of myriad phone calls, e-mail messages and Facebook notes objecting to the tour. kjoy@dispatch.com
